Victorian Carthage

A Historic Preservation Organization

Victorian Carthage, Inc. was incorporated in 1989 as a preservation/educational organization. In 1989, we purchased the 1872 Congregational Church at 600 South Main in Carthage, an in eleven months completely restored the building and sold it to invest in the purchase of Kendrick House, the oldest house in Jasper County, and the only brick home to survive the Civil War.

The organization is also involved in the field of tourism, and provides step-on guide service for motor coach groups, giving them guided tours of Carthage attractions.

Victorian Carthage sponsors a Valentine's Day Candlelight Dinner, St. Patrick's Day Progressive Dinner, Mother's Day Brunch and Dinner, Through the Garden Gate Tour and Lunch (3rd Saturday in June), Maple Leaf Homes Tour (3rd weekend in October), and the Victorian Christmas Homes Tour (1st Saturday in December).

The Kendrick House is also an excellent place for weddings, business meetings, breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, rehearsals and showers.
